2026年5月19日（月曜日）から23日（金曜日）にかけて、福井県坂井市において、生涯スポーツとして普及に取り組む坂井市、および国際交流を目的としたディスクゴルフ出前授業が開催されました。
本事業は、坂井市が中心となり、INNOVA JAPAN様の協力のもと実施された取り組みとなります。
講師として、世界のディスクゴルフ界を代表すジム・オーツ選手、ジュリアナ・コーバー選手が参加し、坂井市内の小学校や高校、スポーツ推進委員の皆様を対象に、ディスクゴルフの魅力を伝える授業・研修が行われました。そして日本のディスクゴルフ発展のために長年にわたり大きなご協力をいただいているお二人に対し、協会として深く感謝申し上げます。

【ジム・オーツ（Jim Oates）選手】
PDGA殿堂入りプレーヤー。世界マスターズ選手権での優勝経験を持ち、長年にわたり世界のディスクゴルフ普及・競技発展に貢献されています。ディスクゴルフの普及活動や国際交流にご協力いただいています。
【ジュリアナ・コーバー（Juliana Korver）選手】
PDGA殿堂入りプレーヤー。女子ディスクゴルフ世界選手権5度優勝。女子ディスクゴルフ界を代表するレジェンドとして、競技普及や次世代育成にも尽力されています。

坂井市では、年齢や性別を問わず誰もが気軽に楽しむことができる生涯スポーツとしてディスクゴルフに取り組んでおり、今回の出前授業もその一環として実施されました。ディスクゴルフは、子どもから高齢者までそれぞれの体力や経験に応じて楽しむことができ、交流や健康づくりにもつながるスポーツとして注目されています。
今回の出前授業は、子どもたちや地域の皆様が、世界トップレベルの選手と直接触れ合いながら、ディスクゴルフの楽しさや奥深さに触れる貴重な機会となりました。
お２人は今回の授業に限らず、2025年にも坂井市ディスクゴルフ出前授業で市内7校の小学校、高校でディスクゴルフ出前授業を実施。また第9回福井オープンに参加いただきました。
ジム・オーツ選手、ジュリアナ・コーバー選手は、競技普及のみならず、国際交流や次世代育成にも多大なるご貢献をいただいており、今回の坂井市での取り組みにおいても、多くの子どもたちや地域の皆様にディスクゴルフの魅力を届けていただきました。

Sakai City Disc Golf Classes Made Possible Through the Contributions of Jim Oates and Juliana Korver
From Monday, May 19 to Friday, May 23, 2026, a series of Disc Golf Outreach Programs and International Exchange activities were held in Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture, as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to promote disc golf as a lifelong sport.
This initiative was organized by Sakai City with the support of INNOVA JAPAN.
World-renowned disc golf legends Jim Oates and Juliana Korver served as instructors, leading clinics and educational programs for elementary schools, Maruoka High School students, and Sakai City’s Sports Promotion Committee members. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to both of them for their many years of support and dedication to the growth of disc golf in Japan.
Jim Oates | Jim Oates is a PDGA Hall of Fame member and a World Masters Champion. Throughout his distinguished career, he has made significant contributions to the worldwide development and promotion of disc golf, while also actively supporting international exchange through the sport.
Juliana Korver | Juliana Korver is a PDGA Hall of Fame member and a five-time PDGA Women’s World Champion. As one of the greatest players in the history of women’s disc golf, she continues to inspire new generations through her dedication to player development and the promotion of the sport around the world.
Program Highlights
During the week, the following activities were conducted:
Disc golf training sessions for Sakai City’s Sports Promotion Committee members
Disc golf outreach classes at local elementary schools
Special classes for students in Maruoka High School’s Sports Exploration Program
Introduction to the basic rules and throwing techniques of disc golf
Hands-on disc golf experience sessions
Demonstrations by world-class professional players
Interaction with students, children, and community members
Sakai City has been actively promoting disc golf as a lifelong sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. This outreach program was another important step in that effort. Disc golf is an inclusive sport that encourages healthy lifestyles, community engagement, and meaningful interaction across generations.
For many of the participants, the opportunity to learn directly from world-class champions and experience the sport firsthand was truly memorable and inspiring.
This was not Jim Oates and Juliana Korver’s first visit to Sakai City. In 2025, they also conducted disc golf outreach classes at seven elementary and high schools throughout the city and participated in the 9th Fukui Open, further strengthening the relationship between the international disc golf community and Japan.
Beyond their outstanding competitive achievements, Jim Oates and Juliana Korver have made extraordinary contributions to the promotion of disc golf, international friendship, and youth development. Their involvement in Sakai City’s programs has inspired countless children and community members while helping to build a brighter future for disc golf in Japan.
